Makerspace Profile

In our inaugural year, our Porter Makerspace opened it's doors to students on the first day of school in the fall of 2015.  Students in first through eighth grades have visited and worked on a variety of projects integrating their classroom learning and curriculum in this hands-on environment.  Sample projects include: using 3-D printers to design cookie cutters for our Life Skills cooking class, creating suitcases with artifacts of famous Americans being studied and engineering design challenges for popular fairytales.
To build support with our families for our Porter Makerspace, we hosted a Cardboard Challenge event where attending families built cardboard structures and games with their students.  Our PTA has supported our renovation changes in the library and our students are participating in a variety of after school clubs in our makerspace that have focused on engineering, construction, 3-D design and arts and crafting.  We look forward to enhancing our students imagination and seeing the limitless possibilities they can create.
